Cast Aspersions in Different Versions

Confusing rhetoric and expansive oratory
Flies over our heads into the expanding mortuary
Of deceased political worship, now consternation,
Anger and disbelief skakes up a once apathetic nation
Deceived; robbed; humiliated and put down
By bumbling politicians; greedy bankers who clowned
Around with our good will and financial well-being
A long existing reality we’re only now seeing
For the 1st time

So they sling mud and cast aspersions
Tell the truth, but in different versions
Every allegation is roundly rejected
Every observation slayed or subtly deflected
Questions unanswered for the sake of the party line
We set ourselves to hear another polititcian whine
About perceived injustices inflicted on them
By biased parties or elements in the media realm

You’ll talk about everything except what you’re asked
Speak around subjects to keep your history masked
With statements like “I have no recollection”
Keeps uncomfortable matters away from reflection
Hidden away from the prying public eye
“Sure, what would they need to know about my
Past associations?”, or bloodied hands. Doesn’t matter
How many times you wash them, the red spatter
Just won’t come off.

So you’ll play the victim and cast aspersions
Tell the truth, but in different versions
Every allegation made is roundly rejected
Every observation slayed or subtly deflected
Questions unanswered for the sake of the party line
We set ourselves to hear another polititcian whine
About perceived injustices inflicted on them
By biased parties or elements in the media realm
